Football Betting Preview: Italy v SpainPublished October 6, 2016
Spain take on Italy in Turin tonight in what is probably the most appetising World Cup Qualifier of this round. La Roja will be looking for revenge after being knocked out of the European Championships in the summer by Antonio Conte’s Azzurri.
Now Conte has departed, replaced by Giampiero Ventura, and Spain have made changes of their own. Julen Lopetegui was drafted in to replace Vicente Del Bosque after the former Real Madrid manager’s tenure ended in disappointment considering the success of the first half of his reign.
Lopetegui got off to a winning start in competitive action last month when his boys thumped Liechtenstein 8-0. Anything but a win there would have been a disgrace. Ventura also got off to a winning start with victory away to Israel. He insists this clash won’t be decisive and, as if to back up his cool demeanour, is willing to give 21-year-old AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli his first start. Expect a close contest with goals at a premium.
