Betting Tip: Backing Spurs to win 2-0 and Harry Kane to score first at 9/1 with Betfair

This is a game that captured the wider interest when the FA Cup draw was made for off-field reasons, given the aggressive history between the two sets of fans. On the pitch, though, it should be a rather straightforward affair.

But in these encounters, anything is possible. Spurs had to rely on a late comeback to beat Wycombe Wanderers in a seven-goal thriller at White Hart Lane earlier in the competition, and Millwall have already put Premier League opposition to the sword this year so cannot be taken lightly.

Most people, probably including Millwall boss Neil Harris, would say the game is Spurs’ to lose. Their high pressing system has helped them break down low defensive lines at home in the past and they have the only unbeaten home record left in the Premier League this season. The key to breaking down that kind of tactic is close control and intricate passing, two attributes the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen have in abundance. They both start in wide positions but cut inside for Kyle Walker and Danny Rose to drive forward and create width from fullback. Both do so at the same time, making it all the tougher to contain.

Kane is never isolated either, making his recent form all the more understandable. The England striker is fast becoming a complete forward, able to score all types of goals, and when he drops into midfield it creates space for the likes of Alli and Eriksen to run into, as well as Korean Son Heung-Min when he plays. Son brings a slight differentiation on the system, because although he starts out wide too, he cuts in and looks to stretch the defence, as opposed to pulling the opposition out of position like Alli and Eriksen.

Spurs must be wary here, but mainly of complacency. Millwall have pace to hit on the counter attack, but it is important that most of the game is played in their half. Harry Kane should again prove too much, and will provide the difference.
