F1 betting Preview : Lewis Hamilton has all the Monza form and can win the Italian Grand PrixPublished August 31, 2016
Lewis Hamilton is the proverbial ‘no brainer’ when it comes to identifying the winner of this weekend’s F1 Grand Prix in Monza, Italy.
Starting from the back of the grid, and with some good fortune, the Brit took third last week in Belgium which meant he maintained his lead in the Drivers World Championship standings. This will have doubtlessly boosted his morale and brings him into this race as confident as ever.
Given his record at this super-fast circuit, where the inference is purely on speed and not cornering, Lewis Hamilton has to be considered value even at the top price of 10/11 with William Hill.
Not only is the current World Champion enjoying a rich vein of form which has seen him win six of the last eight races of the 2016 campaign, his results here in Monza are very impressive. The winner of this race in 2015, 2014 and 2012 Hamilton has also set the ‘Fastest Lap’ here on four occasions and been pole setter four times.
With just two retirements from 39 starts mechanical issues seem unlikely to hinder him on Sunday and that leaves just one barrier, his teammate Nico Rosberg. However, going on his course and distance form, the German is unlikely to offer up much resistance. Rosberg’s Monza form figures read: 6-7-R-5-16-14-6-R-2-17.
Those looking for something at a much bigger price could do worse than support Sergio Perez at 14/1 for a ‘Podium Finish’.
The Force India driver has a car which loves high-speed racing and was arguably unlucky not to finish better than fifth last weekend in Belgium, another circuit renowned for its long flat-out sections.
The Mexican did take third in Baku back in June which underlines the good relationship high-speeds and his car enjoy. And given the poor results Red Bull posted here last season – finishing eighth and tenth – his car may be the one that will be scrapping with Ferrari for one and maybe two podium steps.
