Leeds v Brighton Championship Betting Prediction | Draw with Chris Wood to Score at BetfairPublished March 16, 2017
Usually, our tips offer shorter odds than in this game, but there is real value here. Brighton are on the brink of automatic promotion to the Premier League, but Leeds are well in the playoff race and have the Championship’s top scorer at their disposal in Chris Wood.
The New Zealander has scored 25 goals in all competitions this season, including 22 in the league. At that level, he is certainly a complete striker and can score all types of goals, and with Brighton missing defender Shane Duffy, Wood could have a very fruitful day at Elland Road on Saturday.
First and foremost, this is a meeting of two sides who are organised throughout. Leeds have a strong spine, led by defender Pontus Jansson, with former Brighton man Liam Bridcutt sitting in midfield alongside Ronaldo Vieira. Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez are the main suppliers to Wood, with the latter likely to drop deeper to pick the ball up and go one on one with Dale Stephens in the heart of the pitch for Brighton.
The visitors will certainly miss Duffy, but they are perhaps more flexible, particularly when attacking. Chris Hughton lines his team up with just two central midfielders, which may allow Hernandez to outnumber them, but Sam Baldock often drops in there to help out. Going forward, Baldock offers support to Glenn Murray, while Anthony Knockhaert gets up the field on the left. He aims to stay as wide as he can to stretch the play, supplying crosses and space for the front two to cause damage.
Both main strikers should have good one-on-one battles with defenders. Lewis Dunk will go up against Wood, while Murray will face Jansson. There is a good chance Leeds could win both in what will be a more open game than their 0-0 draw with QPR last week, but you can never write off Brighton.
