Napoli v Real Madrid Betting Prediction | Home Win Bet with BetfairPublished March 7, 2017
Napoli suffered a poor end to the first leg of their tie against the current European champions at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the tie is not over by any means. Lorenzo Insigne’s away goal gives them a foothold in the tie, but it will be tough to progress.
Few clubs across Europe are as potent in attack at the Serie A side, particularly at home. Their system, which was initially forced upon them thanks to an injury to summer signing, striker Arkadiusz Milik, earlier this season, means it is hard for opposing teams to contain them. Dries Mertens is deployed as a central striker in something of a false nine, flanked by Insigne and former Real Madrid star Jose Callejon. The Dutchman has scored 18 league goals this season, and the constant interchange of that front three, making space for each other as well as midfielder Marek Hamsik and fullbacks Faouzi Ghoulam and Elseid Hysaj to push on and get on the front foot.
Real Madrid were without a number of players, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, in their victory over Eibar at the weekend but both could return. While Napoli are among the best sides going forward, Los Blancos have a reputation as the quickest side on the counter attack in the game, especially if Ronaldo and Bale return. Playing the first game at home is billed as a disadvantage, but it has actually helped Real here, because they know their jobs and will be able to pick Napoli off, especially the longer this game goes on.
But Zinedine Zidane will look to score too, to ensure control over the tie. There is no doubting their ability to get on the scoresheet, especially after Karim Benzema’s performance against Eibar. But Casemiro’s role in marshalling Hamsik, which he struggled to do in the first half last time, will be crucial.
Real will be there for the taking going forward but they should also score themselves. We believe they will lose this game, but progress into the quarter-finals.
