Back Barcelona to beat Arsenal with Over 2.5 Goals in the Champions LeaguePublished March 14, 2016
With a 2-0 lead from the 1st leg in London, Barcelona already have more than one foot in the quarter-finals for what would be a ninth season in succession.
To say that Barcelona go into the game in decent form is a massive understatement. They are unbeaten in 37 matches in a run that stretches back to the start of October and with a 6-0 home win over Getafe on Saturday, the Gunners will need a miracle to progress on the Champions League.
Barca have won 18 of their last 19 games, the exception being the 2nd leg of a Copa del Rey semi-final away to Valencia where they were held to a 1-1 draw. There were mitigating circumstances there too, as Luis Enrique selected a near total second team after the regulars had won the 1st leg 7-0.
The outcome of this tie might not be quite as clear-cut as that, but Luis Enrique could almost certainly afford to rest any or all of his famed front three for this game should he wish to do so. It would seem doubtful that he will do Arsenal any favours though, as the South American trident go about adding to the 100 goals they’ve already amassed between them this season.
As if Arsenal’s task isn’t difficult enough, they are also beginning to struggle with a mounting injury list. It had seemed they had managed to avoid their customary plethora of absentees at this time of the season during the current campaign, but recent weeks has seen Petr Cech; Laurent Koscielny; Aaron Ramsey; Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista all injured. The latter pair may well be fit for Barca, but added to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; Jack Wilshere; Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky, the numbers of those ruled out or carrying knocks is beginning to stack up.
Following the trip to Camp Nou Arsenal have a crucial Premier League game away to Everton Saturday lunchtime – that is where their priorities realistically now lie. Barcelona themselves have a testing trip to Villarreal on Sunday in La Liga, which could be a severe test of their long unbeaten run.
There is no value in backing Barcelona just to win this game at a best price of 2/7, so backing them to win with over 2.5 goals in the match is the way to go if looking for a more attractive price.
