Bet on Arsenal thumping Crystal Palace as Eagles eye up FA Cup gloryPublished April 17, 2016
With the pressure off Arsenal and Palace with one eye on Wembley, it would be hard to see anything but the Gunners picking up three easy points with 888Sport giving 8-1 on a 3-0 win.
Earlier in the week, Crystal Palace and Everton played out a dour goalless draw at Selhurst Park. Neither team has much to play for in the Premier League, but both have a FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley next weekend. Even when Everton’s James McCarthy was sent off early in the second half it became a siege on Joel Robles’ goal, but Palace have struggled all year for goals and that did not change here.
The likelihood is the Eagles will arrive at The Emirates in much the same mood and an even keener eye on the big game next week. Palace started the season well enough and expectations were raised until they fell into freefall where victories were few and far between, even losing to Aston Villa, and few have done that this season.
Arsenal have had an almost perfect bell-curve of a season. Starting off badly, before results improved to send them to the top of the league, and almost as if they suffer from acrophobia, as soon as they reached the summit, they started a disastrous run which has seen them fall far behind Leicester and even North London rivals, Tottenham.
As is usual with Arsenal, when the pressure recedes at this stage of the season they start finding their feet again, and so it was before last weekend when they won two games in a row comfortably without conceding. Last weekend they suffered one of those moments of self-destruction as only Arsenal seem able.
Two goals comfortably in the lead against West Ham with a few minutes to go to a comfortable half-time team talk, they allowed Andy Carroll two relatively easy goals and conceded another soon after the break. While Laurent Koscielny did fire in an equalizer, as every Arsenal fan knows, this was definitely two points dropped rather than one gained.
