Greyhound Betting Sites, Offers and Free Bets

Greyhounds Online Betting Offers and Free Bets from online bookmakers

Greyhound racing offers a great alternative type of racing, and bookmakers often support it well with daily odds available, free bets to claim and betting offers for the big events.

Online bookmakers will accept greyhound bets across many different tracks on a daily basis. The meetings include those which are streamed live in the morning and afternoon, while there are three ways to watch in an evening.

Further meetings are streamed live, there is coverage on Sky Sports Racing and the dedicated TV channel RPGTV will also cover meetings on a nightly basis.

Greyhound Betting Sites and Free Bets

Greyhound free bets are no different from horse racing free bets. They can be used on win markets, forecasts and tricasts in every betting site. They can also be used in multiple and exotic bets such as trebles and Lucky 15′s. With just six runners per race, theoretically, it should be easier to win betting on greyhounds than betting on horse racing.

Greyhound racing has been around for almost 100 years and between the 1930s and 1960s, it was massively popular attracting live attendances of thousands in scores of tracks across the UK.

Of course, the landscape has changed and like most sports, many more people now watch the action in a betting shop, on their PC, TV, or mobile device than go to the tracks.

In fact, with bookmakers live streaming upwards of 100 races a day more people probably bet on greyhounds than ever before and that means greyhound betting is an important part of a betting site’s menu. Consequently, greyhound free bets are commonplace, used as a new customer sign-up incentive or handed out as bonuses and consolation prizes.

Greyhound Online Betting Offers

‘Money back if second to the SP favourite’ is probably the most popular greyhound racing free bet offer around at the moment.

But many online betting sites also give their regular greyhound customers odds boosts and bonuses if all legs of your multiple greyhound bet are successful.

How Does Greyhound Betting Work?

Traditionally greyhound betting odds would appear just minutes before a race off time as the greyhounds went on parade. But in recent years major bookmakers took to offering their own prices hours before official off times.

This is a major advantage to shrewd greyhound punters especially as betting on greyhounds with leading online sportsbooks come with the excellent ‘Best Odds Guaranteed’ (BOG) concession.

With races normally made-up of six runners greyhounds betting is not restricted to just win bets

You can place each-way bets (places 1-2 are paid), forecasts and also tricasts. Some online bookmakers have novel markets on such things as ‘Winning Distance’, ‘Inside Traps vs Outside Traps’, ‘To Finish in the Top 3′ even ‘To Finish in the Bottom 3.

Generally races are graded to feature six runners of similar ability. The top grade is always designated A1, the lowest graded races featuring the slowest dogs can go as low as A12 at some tracks.

Normally when a dog wins in a grade he is upgraded one level and after a string of defeats they can be ‘down-graded’ a level.

Where are the Main Greyhound Tracks in the UK?

Towcester attracts attention here as this is where you will find the English Greyhound Derby held, the most prestigious event in the racing calendar.

After temporary closure, Towcester is back with the 2021 Greyhound Derby.

Other big tracks scattered around the country include Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham, Sheffield, Monmore, Romford, Crayford and Hove.

These all offer top quality graded racing for fans to enjoy, but also host major open events from time to time, attracting some of the biggest and best names from around the country, with big prize money on offer.

What are the Biggest Greyhound Racing Events?

The Greyhound Derby is the sports showpiece event. In 2019 it was staged at Nottingham for the first time following the temporary closure of Towcester, but now in 2021 and beyond, the Greyhound Derby will be back at Towcester.

There are many other Category 1 races on the greyhound calendar including the Grand National (yes it is raced over jumps) at Central Park, the Oaks at Swindon, the Champion Stakes at Romford, the Golden Jacket at Crayford, the Regency at Hove, and many more.

In order to have Category 1 status a competition must have a minimum of £10,000 as a first prize.

Who are the Main Players in Greyhound Racing?

Mark Wallis is the sports leading greyhound trainer albeit his former head lad, Patrick Janssens, has become a major force.

Seamus Cahill and Liz McNair are other trainers renowned for having some of the fastest dogs in training and between them they win many of the major competitions.

But most greyhound racing is of the graded variety and that means form students can study videos of previous races and look for telling trends. It’s not uncommon for a track to show a bias whereby there is a string of winners prevailing from outside traps, or early-paced greyhounds are being caught and passed due to a track running ‘slow’.

These are just some of the factors to consider when betting on greyhound racing albeit greyhounds are remarkably consistent whereby a dog which races wide (or close to the inside rail) will never change their run style. Similarly dogs which trap well and shows early speed will do so throughout their career and those that finish strongly will always do so.
