Xabi Alonso announced his retirement from football this month and has been going back and forward doing interviews with Liverpool based media.

Alonso suffered a slump in form after two superb seasons at Anfield, and as a result lost his place in Rafa Benitez’s starting eleven for several big Champions League encounters.

He was almost sold when Benitez identified Gareth Barry as an improved option but the deal never happened as Alonso stayed with Liverpool for another season before racking up the club’s record-high Premier League points tally.

However, the following summer saw Alonso’s exit as he joined Real Madrid for an estimated value of £30m.

In an interview with the Liverpool Echo, Alonso answers questions about the situation in a very mature manner. Watch below.
