Manchester United star linked with surprise West Ham summer transferPublished May 9, 2016
It would be fair to say that midfield powerhouse Marouane Fellaini has failed to win over Manchester United fans over the course of his time at Old Trafford and speculation is rife that the former Everton man could be on his way out this summer.
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is keeping tabs on the 28-year-old and is said to be preparing a significant offer for the Man United man.
The Hammers have enjoyed a superb season and the East London side look likely to secure a return to European football as they prepare for their move to the Olympic Stadium for the 2016/17 season and these two factors could well help West Ham to secure big names when the transfer window reopens.
Manchester United paid £27.5m for Fellaini back in September 2013 and the versatile Belgian international has made just 43 Premier League starts over the course of the past three season, scoring just seven goals in the process, and one imagines Louis van Gaal would accept far less than the club paid for the player nearly three years ago.
Though very much maligned during his time at Manchester United it is thought that Bilic rates Fellaini and feels he can offer the player a fresh start and the further allure of a move to London could prove key.
Though there has been much talk of Jose Mourinho taking over from Louis van Gaal as Manchester United boss there is every chance the Dutch veteran will retain his position, especially if his side manages to overhaul local rivals City to secure a top four spot and the resultant Champions League berth.
Van Gaal’s ready to re-invest in his squad over the summer but will be forced to recoup funds from the sales of players he doesn’t deem as part of his long-term plans, Fellaini being one such player.
