Wayne Rooney could stay at Man Utd, says club legend
Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has backed Wayne Rooney to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford next season, per Sky.
Rooney, 31, has been heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer, having fallen out of favour with boss Jose Mourinho.
The club captain and record goalscorer found himself behind the departed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial last season, and has been linked with a return to Everton.
But Giggs, who spent his entire career at United, says Rooney should follow his lead by adapting his game to prolong his career with the Red Devils.
“Wayne is a proven goalscorer, give him a chance Wayne will score,” Giggs told Sky Sports News HQ.
Nobody is doubting Wayne Rooney's achievements, they're monumental. But if you can't accept he's no longer good enough, you're blind.— Adam Joseph (@AdamJosephSport) June 26, 2017
“It is whether he can put up with not being first choice or whether he can develop his game which I had to around the same age, not being certain to play every game, but playing 25-30 games and contributing.
“If Wayne can do that then I don’t see why he can’t still be at the club.”
