Footage of Messi's first ever Barcelona goal uncoveredPublished November 10, 2016
Given the sheer amount of goals Lionel Messi has scored during his Barcelona career, you’d be forgiven for not remembering his first ever effort for the club, but fear not: new footage has emerged that shows the Argentine star’s milestone strike in all its glory.
There has long been confusion as to when Messi scored his inaugural goal for the Blaugrana, with some suggesting that it came against Albacete on May 1 2005.
Official Barcelona records state, though, that the diminutive forward actually scored even earlier than that- in an unofficial club friendly against Palamos during pre-season.
Footage uncovered shows the then 17-year-old characteristically cutting inside from the right-wing, beating a few defenders, before sliding an effort past the keeper from the edge of the box.
A lot has changed since then, although the 29-year-old’s ability to dazzle remains as strong as ever.
Now perched on a monumental 500 goals for Barca after scoring in the club’s 2-1 away win at Sevilla last weekend, Messi will now be able to look back on a historic moment that he opened his account for the Camp Nou outfit.
A proud moment for player and club alike.
