VIDEO: Thomas Meunier scores an insane last minute golazo for PSGPublished November 2, 2016
The final minutes of Group A were insane in the Champions League last night. Mesut Ozil wasn’t the only one scoring last minute wonder goals to win the game for his team. Thomas Meunier was following the German’s lead with an equally incredible but altogether different kind of stunner.
PSG were struggling to break down a tough Basel side and it looked as though they would have to settle for a point in Switzerland. Except nobody told Thomas Meunier. The Belgian full-back came to prominence at Euro 2016 and was signed by the French champions off the back of his performances at the tournament.
In pre-season, he showed his attacking capabilities with a brace in their 3-1 win over Real Madrid. While he’s been a useful outlet down the right flank, he had been relatively quiet on direct contributions to goals since that friendly display. The trip to Switzerland stirred something in the 25-year-old’s arsenal.
First, he provided the assist for Blaise Matuidi’s opener late in the first half. Then, with victory looking out of reach, he hit an astonishing outside of the boot volley from outside the box. It flew into the top corner and had physicists calling it the Goal of the Season.
