VIDEO: Petratos emulates Messi in scoring thumping free-kickPublished January 13, 2017
Brisbane Roar’s Dimi Petratos has become the latest footballer to score a remarkable free-kick in 2017, with the 24-year-old Australian firing a scorching effort into the top corner during today’s game against Melbourne Victory.
So far this year, we’ve already seen three notable Lionel Messi set-piece efforts, but the A-League star’s strike may well be the pick of the bunch.
With his side 3-0 down after half an hour, Petratos took a long run-up before rocketing the ball into the net. Indeed, the shot was hit with such venom that the keeper didn’t even move.

A memorable strike for the Sydney-born attacking midfielder, but one that could be in vain as at the time of writing, Roar find themselves 3-2 down with around 10 minutes to play.
The visitors sit in fourth place in Australia’s top tier, with likely victors Victory on course to move four points behind leaders Sydney FC thanks to the narrow home win.
