2016 has taken another legend, this time in the form of Carlos Alberto. The former Brazil defender was one of the greatest players to ever play the game and will remain immortal through his unforgettable talent, encapsulated by the best team goal in World Cup history. This blog is dedicated to Alberto and that wonderful strike vs Italy.
The captain of Brazil’s famous 1970 team, Alberto’s name will always be synonymous with beautiful football. That Brazil side was universally popular. They attacked with abandon and played for the fans. While it must have been heartbreaking for Italy to lose in that final, they couldn’t have lost to a more iconic side.
Boasting the talents of Pele, Jairzinho and Tostao to name but a few, it was Alberto who stole the show in that showpiece clash. He put the finishing touch on a tremendous team goal.
