Tottenham ready to make £40m Liverpool star bid in January: White Hart Lane side join ever expanding queue chasing top quality attacker
Tottenham are readying a surprise move for Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge according to the Daily Mirror.
The 27-year=old England international has only started four Premier League fixtures this season and Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp has opted to use a front-three Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philipp Coutinho and seen the trio flourish.
Tottenham on the other hand have struggled during the period Harry Kane has been sidelined, with replacement forward Vincent Janssen struggling to make an impact since his move to White Hart Lane, and Mauricio Pochettino apparently sees Sturridge a strong competitor for the starting berth at the North London club.
Without Kane Tottenham have managed just six goals in the five matches the lethal finisher has missed and Pochettino would no doubt be confident that Sturridge could deliver the goods and the former Chelsea and Man City man is a proven goal-scorer when offered the chance to shine.
Whilst it’s true Sturridge has struggled with injuries of late it’s worth taking a close look at his stats to see just how effective he can be when 100%.
Sturridge didn’t manage to secure regular first team action at either Stamford Bridge or the Etihad but has managed a very impressive tally of 57 goals in 102 appearances with Liverpool, and it’s worth remember that 23 of those came from the bench.
This source claims that Tottenham were scared off by Liverpool’s £40m price-tag over the summer but could look to negotiate a better offer in January.
The likes of West Ham and Stoke City are also said to be keen but a move to Spurs may well prove the most tempting option for Sturridge to consider when the transfer window re-opens.
Arguably Liverpool can afford to consider offers for Sturridge as Klopp has many alternative back-up forwards to call-upon with both Divock Origi and Danny Ings decent alternatives to Firmino.
