Star Premier League striker set to snub Chelsea's advances to sign new dealPublished February 9, 2017
Romelu Lukaku is on course to sign a new long-term deal at Everton, according to agent Mino Raiola.
The Belgian, who has two years to run on his current contract at Goodison Park, has been the source of constant transfer speculation in recent weeks following a string of impressive performances for Ronald Koeman’s Toffees.
Former club Chelsea have been among those heavily linked with a big-money summer move for Lukaku’s signature, but talks between Everton and the player are already underway over improved terms worth in the region of £100,000 per week.
These talks are said to be progressing well, with the Liverpool Echo recently reporting that the two parties were ‘99.99%’ of the way there with regards to agreeing the deal.
And in the clearest indication yet that the pacey attacker will commit his future to the Merseysiders, Italian agent, Mino Raiola, today revealed that it is a matter of when, not if, his client puts pen to paper on the lucrative extension.
“There are no problems right now between the player and the club,” he told Talksport.
“Talks are ongoing. He will sign.”
Lukaku joined Everton for £28 million back in 2014 after failing to establish himself in west London.
The 23-year-old has since developed into one of the best strikers in the Premier League at Goodison Park, and leapt to the top of the scoring charts for the 2016/17 season with a four-goal salvo against Bournemouth on Saturday.
He has scored 78 goals in 152 games for Everton, and is just one goal away from becoming the club’s all-time leading Premier League scorer.
