Spanish referee's epic putdown to coach: "That's why you're on the dole!"Published November 7, 2016
Debates turning heated on Spanish radio is nothing new but Sunday night’s edition of Carrusel Deportivo on Cadena SER proved particularly feisty.
Paco Jeméz, the former Rayo Vallecano boss who’s been out of work after being sacked by Granada last month was debating the referee’s decision to allow the game between Real Madrid and Leganés to continue while a Madrid player was injured.
“There are unwritten codes in football, like how you wouldn’t sub a player after 20 minutes,” shot back Iturralde González, a former referee.
“You just wish you were as good a referee as Mateu Lahoz,” the coach fired back with reference to the match official.
“And you just wish you could play like Zidane at Real Madrid, and that’s why you’re on the dole now, Paco,” came the withering response to a coach infamous for his non-negotiable attacking approach.
The presenter dived in at that point to calm the situation and moments later, Iturralde apologised for his low blow.
