Sanchez to be given rest amid burnout fearsPublished November 22, 2016
Alexis Sanchez in line to miss some of Arsenal’s busy festive schedule, with Arsene Wenger keen to avoid the player suffering from burnout in the second half of the season.
The usually indefatigable Chilean has already made 16 appearances for the Gunners this season, as well as taking part in several games on the other side of the world for his national team.
Such a workload has started to take its toll on the ex-Barcelona man, who picked up a minor hamstring strain while on international duty last week.
And the Daily Mail claims that this has led to a worried Wenger sanctioning a winter break for his talisman, in a bid to make sure the player isn’t missing at other crucial points of the campaign.
With games set to come thick and fast over the festive period, Sanchez could be in line for a rest in the December 6 clash against Basel, provided Arsenal confirm qualification from their Champions League group against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Another option is believed to be the third round of the FA Cup at the beginning of January, as Wenger typically rotates his squad during the early stages of the competition.
Sanchez has notched eight goals and five assists in 16 games so far this season, confirming his vast importance to the Emirates Stadium outfit.
