Real Madrid & Liverpool fight it out to sign superb goal machine
Timo Werner caught the attention of Europe’s top club Real Madrid and could be on his way to La Liga.
The Spanish giants joined the race for the German international and may create a bidding war with Liverpool who have been pursuing the striker.
The 21-year-old had an impressive 2016-17 season in the Bundesliga, netting 26 goals in all competitions for Leipzig. He was the leading goal scorer during the 2017 Confederations Cup and bagged a brace against Norway during the recent international break. Real reportedly had scouts at Germany’s 6-0 World Cup qualifying win and believe he has great promise.

Werner is under contract at Leipzig until 2020 and allegedly has no release clause in his current deal. While the two clubs are looking to add the talented winger, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, said he is confident Werner will remain at the Red Bull Arena.
“We play in the Champions League. We offer Timo the chance to make the next step. We are totally relaxed.”
Madrid may wait till next summer to make a move for the striker since he will represent Leipzig in the Champions League, and therefore will not be able to include him in the squad during their title defence.

Leipzig are working towards keeping their top goal scorer at the club after agreeing to sell Naby Keita to Liverpool next summer. Jurgen Klopp will continue to monitor the rising striker, and brace himself against Real Madrid, who appear to have more to offer Werner.
