Real Madrid very confident they will complete the £200m signing of this Premier League starPublished October 23, 2017
Real Madrid’s pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is gathering pace, with reports suggesting Los Blancos are convinced they can lure him to La Liga next summer.
Zinedine Zidane is plotting his first major summer spend at the Santiago Bernabeu, with signs he could finally be struggling a bit with a team whom he has led to two Champions Leagues and a La Liga title. But poor results, including draws with Levante and Valencia and a home defeat to Real Betis mean they are already trailing arch rivals Barcelona by a considerable distance domestically.
Kane’s Spurs even earned a point with a 1-1 draw in the Champions League, and it is clear to see what the problem has been throughout the campaign to date – scoring goals.
The Real boss had to jump to the defence of Karim Benzema this week after he got a barrage of criticism, most notably from England and Spurs legend Gary Lineker, one of many men Kane appears set to surpass if he continues to impress in such a vein.
But The Sun are reporting the European champions have found a plan to get Kane, even though the England man has consistently said he sees himself retiring at the club he developed at. Spurs are reportedly not willing to contemplate his sale for anything less than £200million.
It will be interesting to see if Real can put such a deal together and if it is enough to temp either the club or the player. The same kind of story played out four years ago when Gareth Bale was sold for a then world record £86million; the Welshman had a lot to thank Spurs for but could not resist the opportunity to play for the world’s biggest club. The English side had enough money to reshape their squad, but a lot of the players flopped at White Hart Lane.
There are lessons to be learnt from Spurs’ point of view, but they will know that, more often than not, when Real Madrid want a player they get them. It may take a new world record transfer, but that is exactly what Los Blancos specialise in.
