Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe is expected to go to Real Madrid for a world-record transfer fee of £160m, providing a new window for Manchester United to swoop in and capture Gareth Bale.

Bale has scored 67 goals in 150 appearances since moving from Tottenham to the Bernabéu back in 2013, when he set a world-record transfer of £85.2m. However, he has been stricken with several injuries the past few seasons, and Zinedine Zidane may look to the future with Mbappe.
As Madrid nears a massive deal bringing the 18-year-old to La Liga, José Mourinho is hopeful it will open talks with Bale. The ‘Special One’ wants to make another big signing during the summer transfer window, and keen on the Welsh star.
Over the weekend, United defeated Madrid on penalties in a pre-season friendly and Mourinho was spotted talking with Bale.
The United boss greeted the Welshman and joked: “I can’t buy you because you don’t talk to me.”
They will have another opportunity to speak when the two clubs face off again on August 8th for the UEFA Super Cup Final.
United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is also determined to bring a global star to Old Trafford this summer, and spoke of Bale as a dream target.
