OFFICIAL: Neymar Jr is heading for the exit door at Barcelona
It looks as though the saga of the summer and the biggest transfer in history is coming to an end after Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday morning that Neymar has told the club he wants to leave.
This comes after a string of reports that PSG were looking to trigger the players’ €222m release clause that would comfortably become the biggest transfer in history, actually doubling the current world record fee set by Paul Pogba.
Barcelona communicated through their official social media on Wednesday morning that the player and his father has expressed his desire to leave and reports prior to that explained that he had been allowed to skip training and say goodbye to his teammates.
With only a release clause to be triggered, it would mean that Barcelona are powerless to stop the Brazilian from leaving the club as long as a club meets his release clause.
Reports started off as whispers but there has always seemingly been an admiration from PSG for Neymar and that has snowballed into the biggest transfer saga in history.
Barcelona looked to fight back at first, with even backing from La Liga that they would report to UEFA if PSG triggered Neymar’s release clause due to the effects it could have on Finacial Fair Play.
Now, it is looking as though the club may just be powerless to the pure funds that Paris Saint Germain can muster up, with no one expecting any club to be able to afford such an astronomical release clause.
Safe to say, the transfer fee record will not be beaten for some time now.
