Marseille want to sign Inter Milan midfielder for €40 millionPublished November 3, 2016
Newly-rich Marseille want to bring Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia back to Ligue 1 and are willing to spend up to €40 million to do so, L’Equipe report. The fallen giants have just been taken over by American owners who have appointed former AS Roma boss Rudi Garcia as their new manager.
Marseille have been down in the doldrums of Ligue 1 for several seasons but this new injection of cash promises that better days are ahead. As Paris Saint-Germain proved after the Qatari takeover, and as we’ve seen in many cases across Europe, players will follow the cash and stick around for the project.
Kondogbia has struggled at Inter Milan since his €30 million move to Italy in 2015. Still only 23-years-old, a transfer to Marseille seems like one that could suit all parties. Inter would make a profit on a player who’s been a flop in Serie A and Kondogbia would return to his old stomping ground, where he enhanced his reputation as one of Europe’s best young defensive midfielders with AS Monaco.
