Mario Balotelli's wage demands scuppered La Liga move in the summerPublished November 17, 2016
Mario Balotelli could have moved to Spain for the first time in his career during the summer but his wage demands scuppered a switch, it’s now been revealed. Malaga sporting director Francesc Arnau told Cadena Cope about the negotiations with Balotelli.
He said: “Balotelli’s salary is astronomical. We made an offer for him but the amount involved was something we couldn’t pay.
“He went to Nice because they have a strong, economic project in place there with new owners who have invested a lot into the club. There was no chance of him coming here.”
It’s been Malaga’s loss so far. Balotelli has hit the ground running since leaving Liverpool for Nice. The French side sit at the top of Ligue 1 and the contribution of Super Mario has much to do with that. Six goals in six league games goes some way to proving that he’s not a spent force, an accusation that was thrown at him repeatedly during his spell with the Reds.
He’s even revealed how he plans to celebrate if Nice win the league: “There’s still a long way to go, but if we do win the title, I’m going to fly a helicopter over Nice.” Never change, Mario!
