Manchester United vs Manchester City: Match Preview, Best Bets, Team News, Predicted Line-UpsPublished September 8, 2016
Manchester United host Manchester City this weekend in arguably the biggest clash of the Premie League season this term.
It’s also the first time we get to see Jose Mourinho take on Pep Guardiola in an English top tier context, the duo having gone head to head frequently in their previous respective roles at Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Mourinho vs Guardiola
It’s well known that these two don’t get on but they did of course work together closely at Barcelona, when Mourinho was assistant to Sir Bobby Robson and Guardiola was plying his trade on the field of play.
The pair have met 16 times.
Games played: 16
Goals scored: Guardiola – 26, Mourinho – 16.
Both sides have picked up wins from their opening three Premier League fixtures and are evenly matched ahead of this titanic battle.
Guardiola will be without Sergio Aguero, banned for elbowing West Ham defender Winston Reid, but the good form shown by Raheem Sterling may encourage the Spaniard to play the England man in a central role though it’s perhaps more likely that youngster Kelechi Iheanacho will start up front.
Jose Mourinho may be tempted to field Marcus Rashford after his midweek hat-trick on his England Under 21 debut, though Mata will probably get the nod out wide in a three man attack.
New Look Derby
A number of new faces have pitched up at Old Trafford and the Etihad over the summer and the likes of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, John Stones and Nolito are all set for Manchester Derby debuts.
Guardiola’s side are slight favourites for the Premier League title but home advantage should make Mourinho’s side the favourites for this particular match.
