Manchester United target set to sign new Napoli contract
Dries Mertens has been a star for Napoli and it comes as no surprise that clubs such as Manchester United are interesting in his signature.
It is the revelation from the Serie A club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who is confident that the striker will stay with them.
Mertens has scored 24 goals in just 32 Serie A outings this season having been moved to the centre forward position.
However, his future has remained unclear with his current deal set to expire next year.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with the Belgian international all season but, after months of negotiating, De Laurentiis believes Napoli have finally convinced Mertens to stay.
He told Corriere dello Sport: “I believe that we are close and therefore the signature should arrive shortly.
“Let’s just say that in a week we should achieve what we have been talking about.”
