Manchester United target defensive duo as part of potential reshufflePublished November 17, 2016
Jose Mourinho is plotting January moves for two right-backs as he seeks defensive reinforcements, according to reports this morning.
With out-of-favour pair Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian believed to be on their way out of Old Trafford in this winter, the Portuguese manager has targeted Paris Saint-Germain’s Sergie Aurier and Elseid Hysaj of Napoli to fill the problem position.
United scouts cast their eye over Ivorian international Aurier during the Elephants’ 0-0 draw against France in Lille, and the Daily Mirror report that the Old Trafford outfit are readying an £18 million bid for his services during the window.
A regular in the PSG side, 23-year-old Aurier certainly won’t be easy to prise away from the Parc des Princes, although derogatory comments made about teammates Salvatore Sirigu, Gregory van der Wiel and Edinson Cavani over the summer may help the Red Devils’ cause.
Albian right-back Hysaj, meanwhile, enjoyed a hugely successful season for club and country in 2015/16, bringing him to the attention of some of Europe’s biggest sides.
Having joined the Serie A outfit for just £5 million in 2015, the Daily Star claims that the 22-year-old would now only be available for around £15 million after last year signing a long-term deal at the Stadio San Paolo.
A versatile defender also comfortable at centre-back, Hysaj has featured 10 times for the sixth-placed Partenopei so far this campaign.
