Manchester United to spend £226m on Paul Pogba: Old Trafford side to complete epic summer transferPublished August 2, 2016
Manchester United continue to pursue Paul Pogba with Italian source La Repubblica claiming that the deal to bring in the rangy midfielder will cost the Old Trafford club as much as £226m in total.
The transfer fee the Premier League side will pay Juventus a world-record £112m fee and aside from this sum they must pay £25m to Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola.
The French international will pocket a massive £220k a week, after tax, over the course of a five-year contract as well as various bonuses, add-ons, leading to a truly astronomical outlay for a player Sir Alex Ferguson was willing to allow to leave for around £200k on expiry of his contract with the club back in the summer of 2012.
Pogba left Manchester United for Turin as a strong teenage prospect and has since matured into arguably the most sought after young player in world football, and as such he won’t come cheap.
The 23-year-old has won four Serie A titles in his four seasons in Italy and is on the up and up.
In 2014/15 Pogba played a key role in helping Juventus to a Champions League final berth, where they lost out to a rampant Barcelona, and last season he finished as the leading assist-maker in Serie A.
He had a decidedly average Euro 2016 campaign but arguably this is down chiefly to Didier Deschamps’ using him in a very defensive role that doesn’t best suit his game.
Pogba could offer Mourinho a natural link between midfield and attack and the player may feel he has a point to prove having failed to make the grade in his previous spell at Manchester United.
