Manchester United set sights on £178m trio as Jose Mourinho prepares to offload ten in massive summer re-shufflePublished July 31, 2016
Manchester United are hot on the heels of three big new signings as Jose Mourinho seeks to strenghten his squad ahead of the new season according to The Sun.
The Old Trafford side are closing in on a £102m deal to bring in Juventus star Paul Pogba and are then set to make another move to bring in a star-performer from the Turin based side, experienced defender Leonardo Bonucci.
The 29-year-old Italian international will cost as much as £60m but is seen by Jose Mourinho as an ideal option to boost options at the back.
Manchester United brought in Eric Bailly to strengthen their defence but the Ivory Coast international is arguably still too raw to be considered a regular first choice starter next term and Mourinho may see Bonucci as an ideal partner for Chris Smalling in the heart of his back-line.
Ezequiel Garay and Jose Fonte are also considered possible options, both of which would clearly cost significantly less and would be easier nuts to crack.
Mourinho is also set to make a £16m bid for AS Monaco right-back Fabinho with Matteo Darmian said to be one of a host of players on their way out as the former Chelsea manager seeks to conduct a major squad overhaul.
Pogba left Manchester United in 2012 on expiry of his contract and the 23-year-old French international has matured into arguably the hottest young player in world football. The rangy midfielder has arguably achieved as much as he can at Juventus.
The Euro 2016 star has won successive titles in his four seasons in Italy and last term finishing the campaign as the leading assist-maker in Serie A.
Bonucci has spent six seasons at Juventus and is said to be happy to remain at the club but Jose Mourinho could tempt the tough tackler to the Premier League, where he could secure a big pay-rise.
As well as the Italian international Mourinho will look to offload a total of ten players, the most high-profile of which being German veteran Bastian Schweinsteiger according to the Telegraph.
Mourinho is not well known for giving a lot of time to youthful prospects, preferring instead to spend big to fill holes, and now reports suggest that the Manchester United boss is ready to offload youngsters Will Keane, James Wilson, Tyler Blackett, Paddy McNair and Adnan Januzaj whilst he will look to loan out Andreas Pereira, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick Jackson on a temporary basis.
Mourinho has already brought in the aforementioned Bailly as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Last season Louis van Gaal failed to secure a Champions League berth and as such Mourinho has a tougher task luring top talents but clearly thus far this hasn’t proven such an obstacle, due chiefly to the sheer size of the club.
Swedish veteran Ibrahimovic certainly feels confident that Manchester United are set to enter a new golden era, having experienced three lean seasons following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement from the game, the 34-year-old forward stating;
“There is something big on the go, it’s going to be very interesting this year,” he said. “Let us say that if Pogba comes too, it’s going to be very interesting.”
Very interesting indeed….
