Report: Manchester United to rival Chelsea for Roma midfielder
Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Belgium and Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan.
According to Sky Sports News, United are willing to trump Chelsea in their efforts to sign the 29-year old, one of the most sought-after midfield talents in Europe.
Antonio Conte had plans to sign Nainggolan last summer but a deal never materialised. If the Italian wishes to pursue his interest a year later, Chelsea will face stiff competition from their North West rivals.
However, reports claim United’s interest is at an early stage and there’s been no agreement.
Nainggolan played for Piacenza and Cagliari before joining Roma in 2014 for £7.7m. This has been his best season yet on the goalscoring front scoring a career record 11 goals and 4 assists in Serie A, which comes as a result of being deployed in a more advanced midfield role.
Nainggolan, speaking to Sky Sports News in March, confirmed Conte’s interest, saying:
“Yes. I talked to him.
“They were really interested and wanted me over there. That’s all I can say.”
He said of the Premier League: “I watch it a lot. A lot of my team-mates play there. It’s the best league in the world.
“We have to make choices in life. I am having a good season. When the window opens we will talk about it again.”
