Manchester United plot mega deal for two Ligue 1 stars
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is targeting an £80million swoop for two of Ligue 1’s finest this summer as he bids to improve his squad at Old Trafford, per Metro.
Mourinho’s first season at United has been hit and miss, despite winning the League Cup and reaching a Europa League semi final, with the team struggling to reach the top four in the Premier League and subsequent Champions League qualification.
The Portuguese has identified Paris Saint-Germain’s energetic midfielder Blaise Matuidi and AS Monaco playmaker Bernardo Silva as the men to rectify their issues this summer.
The Red Devils have already spent big under Mourinho’s stewardship, breaking the world transfer record to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus in an £89million deal and luring Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund for £26million.
But still the team has underachieved, as they have overall since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. The Scot left having won a 13th Premier League title, but has had to watch his former club fade away since.
Silva and Matuidi are currently in competition for the Ligue 1 title, with Monaco leading PSG by three points with a game in hand.
