Manchester United Plot Audacious Chelsea Player Swap DealPublished June 19, 2016
Newly installed Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is lining up a surprise move to raid his former club Chelsea according to the Daily Express.
By all accounts Antonio Conte, who is set to take over at Stamford Bridge following the Euro 2016 finals, where he is leading the Italian national side, is keen on luring Matteo Darmian to West London and this will give Mourinho a bargaining chip in his pursuit of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic.
Matic had an up and down season last term but was a key performer in Chelsea’s 2014/15 Premier League title winning side and Mourinho may well feel the intelligent midfielder could offer him a fresh option in the centre of his Manchester United midfield.
Mourinho will be handed a big transfer fund warchest to invest in the squad he inherited from former boss Louis van Gaal but the lack of a Champions League berth could well prove a real stumbling block when it comes to trying to snap up truly world-class talent.
Fortunately for Mourinho, Chelsea are also absent from Champions League action for next season and as such Matic may be tempted by a fresh start.
Matic is in his second spell at Chelsea and has made a total of 113 appearances for the Blues.
Darmian moved to Man United last summer and impressed in patches during his debut Premier League campaign but is seemingly a player Mourinho is ready to offload if he can secure Matic in return.
This source also states that Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay are all fighting for their Manchester United futures under Mourinho.
