Manchester United to pip Arsenal to star signing for a very strange reasonPublished April 20, 2017
Arsenal have inadvertently given Manchester United the upper hand in the race to sign James Rodriguez this summer, by putting his brother-in-law up for sale, per the Daily Star.
Rodriguez, 25, is likely to be available in the off season after another frustrating campaign at Real Madrid. A move to the Premier League could be on the cards, but by agreeing to let David Ospina leave, the Gunners have reduced their chances of clinching a deal.
Ospina, the back-up goalkeeper at the Emirates Stadium, had been pushing to convince Rodriguez, who married his sister Daniela, to join him in North London.
But if he leaves the club, Rodriguez is likely to look elsewhere, with Jose Mourinho keen to lure him to Old Trafford, with or without Champions League football next season.
The Colombian playmaker moved to Real Madrid in 2014 in a £73million deal after performing excellently at that summer’s World Cup.
But he has endured a mixed stint in LaLiga, initially featuring regularly under Carlo Ancelotti but less so under both Rafa Benitez and Zinedine Zidane.
