Manchester United hope to sign Mesut Ozil next summer on a free transfer, as the Arsenal midfielder is reportedly planning on letting his contract run out, according to the Mirror.

The German international is eying a move to Old Trafford, and could then reunite with Jose Mourinho, who managed Ozil at Real Madrid.

Much can be said over Arsenal’s recent struggles while United appear to be on the rise as Mourinho has a long-term plan and already showing his side are true title contenders. Ozil has been frustrated during his time under Arsene Wenger and eager to win more titles in the Premier League.

Alexis Sanchez has the same contract situation, and linked to a potential move, despite failing to secure a move this summer to Manchester City. Arsenal appear to have more players seeking out rather looking to stay at the Emirates.

The continuous struggles under Wenger and questionable management puts Arsenal in trouble. The club are not playing in the Champions League this season, and do not appear to be Premier League contenders. Changes must be made from top if the Gunners expect to return to their previous glory days.

The Sunday Mirror Sport revealed Mourinho is interested in the 28-year-old midfielder.

“Ozil’s advisors have put out feelers over a potential move to Manchester United and the feedback has been encouraging.”

The German international is seeking £250,000-a-week which could be possible if he holds out until next summer when the Red Devils can make a move without a transfer fee.
