Manchester United close in on £37m pair as Jose Mourinho plans deadline day swoopsPublished August 31, 2016
It looks as though Manchester United are not done yet, as far as this summer’s transfer window are concerned.
The Reds have taken the world of football by storm, with transfer dealings this summer, with the likes of Zlatan Ibarahimovic and Paul Pogba arriving at Old Trafford.
United have spent £150m on new additions, but if you thought that Reds boss Jose Mourinho was finished with his summer spending, then think again.
It’s understood that the Old Trafford outfit are looking to complete a double deal on deadline day, in a bid to strengthen their defensive line for the season ahead.
According to widespread sources, United are looking to capture the signings of Monaco defender Fabinho and Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte in a combined deal worth £37m.
It’s well known by now that there has been concrete interest in Fabinho by United, with the Reds failing with previous bids in their attempts to sign the defender.
It’s understood that Jose Mourinho is desperate to land the 22-year-old before the transfer deadline, and the United hierarchy have returned with a bid in the region of £27m, with sources now reporting that a deal is edging closer.
Meanwhile, Portugal defender Fonte, has been a United target throughout the summer, and it’s believed that a £10m offer to Southampton is imminent, as the Red Devils try and convince the Saints to sell before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
