Some reports suggest that the club’s move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is at an advanced stage with the Metro reporting that the 25-year-old French international has already been given a squad number having thrashed out a contract offer from the Premier League side.

Manchester United will have to trigger Griezmann’s transfer release clause, set at £86m, in order to land the Vicente Calderon star as Atletico Madrid are unlikely to allow the player to leave for less.

Mourinho seems keen to re-shape his attack with the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford adopting peripheral roles whilst Wayne Rooney has barely started over the past few months.

The spearhead of Mourinho’s attack, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is clearly at the latter stages of his glittering career and that’s another aspect Manchester United must take into account.

Griezmann has bagged 71 goals in 134 appearances since leaving Real Sociedad for the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile Mourinho also continues to chase Real Madrid bit-part player James Rodriguez and the Colombian international seems certain to leave the Bernabeu having found first-team chances limited.

The Daily Express claims Man United are keen on the South American but are unwilling to pay more than £35m for his services, but that may be enough to convince the Spanish giants to sell.

The former FC Porto and AS Monaco man may feel the time is right for a fresh challenge and would presumably jump at the chance of a move to Manchester United.

Man United currently sit in sixth spot in the table, this even after a 13 game unbeaten run, and one imagines the chances of capturing either of these stars would be slim if Mourinho hasn’t secured a Champions League berth.
