Man United offer £60m plus two players in massive transfer deal to land World-Class Chelsea target
Manchester United are drawing up a truly astounding offer that they hope will convince Atletico Madrid to sell prized asset Antoine Griezmann, who is also known to be a genuine Chelsea target.
Jose Mourinho has placed the 25-year-old French international at the top of his wish-list and is confident he can complete a deal to bring in the Vicente Calderon star next summer.
In order to keep the financial cost of such a signing down as far as possible, especially having spent upwards of £150m in the last transfer window, chief executive Ed Woodward will look to persuade the La Liga side to agree to a player plus cash offer.
Manchester United will offer £60m along with the services of Dutch winger Memphis Depay plus either of two defensive makeweights, full-back Matteo Darmian or Argentine Marcos Rojo.
Though Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone would be loathed to lose Griezmann it’s been speculated that the former Real Sociedad is interested in a move to the Premier League and Mourinho feels that the fact that the cultured forward’s close friend, Paul Pogba, is now back at the club that he has the edge over Chelsea in the chase.
Manchester United are keen to pull off another strong transfer statement but Mourinho is well aware that unless his side secure a Champions League berth for 2017/18 then any deal is unlikely to be completed.
Griezmann has proven a big hit in the Spanish capital, racking up 63 goals in 115 appearances since moving to Atleti back in the summer of 2014. He added a great deal to his valuation with his Euro 2016 efforts, netting six goals as France battled to the semi-finals.
Mourinho is willing to offload Depay and the former PSV Eindhoven man would probably jump at the chance of a move to Atletico Madrid given his relative lack of first-team action at Manchester United.
Manchester United have started the season in average fashion but still have the pulling power to attract the world’s best and Griezmann is certainly a player approaching his peak.
Chelsea have previously successfully raided Atletico Madrid to bring in the likes of Diego Costa and Felipe Luis and developed a strong relationship with the club when they loaned out keeper Thibaut Courtois for a number of seasons.
