Man United & Chelsea in talks to sign 'Next Neymar': Premier League giants want Brazilian wonderkidPublished August 11, 2016
Santos president Modesto Roma has confirmed that his side have held talks with Manchester United and Chelsea, among other clubs, in relation to growing interest in teenage sensation Gabriel Barbosa, more commonly known as Gabigol, according to Goal.com.
The 19-year-old is considered the ‘next Neymar’ and is also attracting the interest of Premier League champions Leicester City and Atletico Madrid.
Gabigol has already racked up over 150 first-team appearances at Santos and made a real impact in this summer’s Copa America, despite Brazil’s poor display, and Roma is seemingly comfortable discussing the issue of his immediate future which may lead some to assume a sale could be imminent.
“We had productive conversations,” Roma told Goal.
“We didn’t come to buy or sell players, neither in London or Madrid. We came to build up relationships. There weren’t offers, but we did talk about partnerships. I talked to Manchester United, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.”
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been linked with moves to lure Romelu Lukaku away from Everton and back to Stamford Bridge and the Italian may see Gabigol as a possible alternative to that switch.
Jose Mourinho has already welcomed in Zlatan Ibrahimovic to boost his Manchester United front-line whilst Gabigol may be seen as a long term option, and could fit in well alongside young talents Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
