Liverpool star man being pursued by European big gunsPublished January 12, 2017
Adam Lallana’s superb form for Liverpool in the opening half of the season has brought him to the attention of some of Europe’s biggest teams, with Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain all linked with a move for the England midfielder in today’s papers.
28-year-old Lallana has arguably enjoyed his best campaign to date so far, mustering seven goals and as many assists in just 18 Premier League appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s men and excelling in the absence of playmaker-in-chief Philippe Coutinho.
According to the Times (via the Guardian), the former Southampton player’s red-hot form has sparked interest from a number of the continent’s elite clubs, including La Liga title holders Barcelona, Serie A champions Juventus and Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
With just two years left to run on his current deal at Anfield and no talks regarding an extension as yet scheduled, the belief among the trio is that Lallana would be an excellent alternative to more expensive Coutinho, who has an extra season left on his contract and is valued at way in excess of £50 million.
Klopp favourite Lallana, though, would not come cheap either, as second-placed Liverpool’s participation in this season’s title race rules out the sale of key players during the January window unless astronomical offers are forthcoming.
Indeed, bought from Southampton for a fee of £26.35m back in 2014, the late bloomer’s status as one of the Reds’ most important figure means that the Merseysiders should expect to make a substantial profit should they decide to cash in on one of their prized assets.
Lallana has 28 caps for England and was one of the Three Lions’ best players at last summer’s European Championship in France.
