Liverpool make mega-bid for Serie A star
Liverpool have launched a £36million bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, per the Daily Star.
The Reds may be closing in on a deal for Roma’s Mo Salah, but they are also keen to strengthen their defence and have turned to Italy in order to find the right option.
Jurgen Klopp had been interested in Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, but Liverpool have been made to stand down after the Saints threatened to report them for their pursuit of the Dutchman.
Koulibaly is no stranger to Premier League interest, having been the subject of a reported bid from Chelsea last summer, but Napoli rejected it.
The Senegalese international played a vital role in helping the Partenopei reach the Champions League once again next season, but were he to come to Anfield, he would still be in the competition after Klopp’s side’s top four finish.
Koulibaly would face competition from the likes of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip if he were to sign this summer.
