The Merseyside club have had an efficient transfer window, but some on Merseyside were calling for their side to make a serious title statement this summer, with a marquee signing.
Well, according to reports on social media that ‘big name’ signing was indeed on the horizon, with the Anfield hierarchy making a late deadline day move for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez.
It’s understood that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp instructed club officials to inquire about Rodriguez’s availability and price tag, ahead of a possible bid for the player on Wednesday.
It’s believed that Madrid were open to the idea of selling the Colombian midfielder, but demanded a fee in the region of £60m.
It’s also understood that Liverpool chiefs including Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, spent hours on deadline day debating a move for Rodriguez, but after much deliberation informed the La Liga giants that they would not b following up their interest in the player this summer.
