Lionel Messi hammers Cristiano Ronaldo in Marca's Ballon d'Or poll
On Monday, France Football announced their 30-man shortlist for this season’s FIFA Ballon d’Or award.
Mind you, it’s not very short. Is it?
The list will be shortened to just three men for the main event held in Switzerland at the start of 2017.
However, it doesn’t a rocket scientist to tell you Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are among those battling it out yet again this year.
Barcelona attacker Messi claimed a record fifth Ballon d’Or award in 2015, while Cristiano Ronaldo has won the award three times.

It’s widely assumed that Ronaldo will win the award for 2016.
But given how it was such a successful year on the pitch for Ronaldo, many are tipping to Portuguese to come out on top. Not only did his Real Madrid side win the Champions League, but Ronaldo also helped lead Portugal to their first ever major international trophy – Euro 2016 – in France last summer.
Moreover, journalists get a vote this year and Spanish paper Marca ran a poll on their website canvassing readers for their preference.
Marca claim they received more than 100,000 votes in 24 hours, and perhaps surprisingly Messi crushed Ronaldo.
The Argentine collected a whopping 58%, while Ronaldo only received 26.6% of the votes.
