Kasper Schmeichel slams Leicester display after Manchester United defeat
Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has labeled his side’s display in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United as “embarrassing” in a frank interview with Sky Sports.
The Foxes are now just one point outside the relegation zone, despite being crowned champions in May, after goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata eased the Red Devils to three points.
Not many expected the Foxes to retain their title, but few thought Claudio Ranieri’s side’s fall from grace would be so harsh.
Schmeichel has admitted that something must change if Leicester are not to become the first side to get relegated just a year after winning the Premier League title.
“It isn’t a situation that is comfortable at all,” he said.
“We’re the reigning champions and quite frankly it has been terrible, it has been embarrassing.
“We have to improve right now.”
Newspaper reports had suggested some players were not motivated to play for Ranieri, but the Danish stopper was not willing to comment.
“I’m not going to comment on newspaper speculation,” he continued.
“I know what is going on in the dressing room and we’re a group of players who are low on confidence but certainly not low on fight.
“We’ll fight until the end, whatever that may be. I can guarantee every player is hurting.”
