Manchester United star Juan Mata is set to complete a £21m transfer to Everton according to a number of sources.

Incoming Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho has ‘previous’ when it comes to offloading the Spaniard, having sold the cultured attacker during their shared time at Chelsea, and the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund is perhaps evidence that the Man United man is on his way out.

Everton are under new ownership with British-Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri buying a 49% in the Merseyside club and Ronald Koeman has taken over from Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park.

Mata would offer real quality in the final third and could be seen as an ideal supply line for prolific Belgian Romelu Lukaku.

£21m is a very fair price to pay for a player of Mata’s undoubted quality and such a move could help rejuvenate his career.

Though Mata hasn’t proven a massive success at Manchester United the pint-sized playmaker has certainly been an effective performer.

Over the course of his two and a half years at Manchester United Mata has contributed 21 goals and 13 assists in 86 Premier League appearances.
