Cursed: Arsenal fans take to Twitter following a major injury to another defender [Best Tweets]Published August 9, 2016
Arsenal fans must be thinking their side is cursed.
The Gunners have been plagued by injuries throughout the years, but Arsene Wenger’s side are now facing an injury crisis before a competitive match has been played.
The North London side are in somewhat of a defensive mess, with Per Mertesacker rulled out of action for up to five months, whilst Brazilian defender Gabriel, sustained what appeared to be a nasty injury, in Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Brazilian was on the ground for several minutes of the 3-2 win for Arsenal with what looked like an ankle injury following a challenge with City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
With Laurent Koscielny also injured, the Gunners will be sweating over Gabriel’s fitness, as a serious injury to the 25-year-old would leave Arsene Wenger with new signing Rob Holding, as they only fit centre-back available, as the Gunners prepare to face Liverpool in their opening game of the new Premier League season on Sunday.
Arsene Wenger had confirmed he was in the market for a new defender, even before the injury to Gabriel, but after this latest injury set-back, he will need to step up his reported interest in defensive reinforcements.
Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi has been linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, though it is believed that Arsene Wenger was willing to take his time to ensure he concluded the right deal.
But in the midst of yet another injury crisis, Arsenal fans have taken to social media in a bid to ‘encourage’ the Gunners boss to bring in another defender, as quickly as possible.
