Conte wants Chelsea fans to respect former boss Mourinho [Video]
Chelsea and Jose Mourinho are that bad teenage relationship pretty much everyone has had. Some of you are probably still going through it years later, but we think the Special One is beyond that now.
Constantly breaking up and getting back together sums up Chelsea and Mourinho, who now manages the Blues’ domestic rivals Manchester United.
Given how it ended for Mourinho at Chelsea, he could still be subjected to boos on Sunday when the two clubs battle it out in a Super Sunday clash.
Mourinho is undoubtably the best manager they’ve had, so seeing with a United coloured tie will hurt.
But Antonio Conte, the current Chelsea boss, wants fans to welcome Mourinho back with a bit of perspective. He’s the coach who gave them a first league title in 50 years, who later won two other titles across two spells as well as a litany of other trophies.
Conte said: “He becomes, like the players of Man United, an enemy… but only in the sporting aspect. I think that he was an important manager for Chelsea, with the club and the players he wrote a part of the story.
“He won three championships here and was an important man to the club. I think he deserves a good reception because, I repeat, I wrote with the players/staff a part of the story of this club.”
