Chelsea vs Tottenham Combined XI: Which Two Blues Stars Make the Grade!Published May 2, 2016
Tottenham travel to Stamford Bridge to face arch-rivals Chelsea on Monday night, in a game they must win in order to keep their faint title hopes alive.
Following Leicester’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, there is now no room for error as far as Mauricio Pochettino’s side are concerned, and anything but three points against their West London neighbours will see Leicester crowned as champions.
Whilst Spurs are looking to keep their title aspirations alive, Chelsea are looking to give their fans something to shout about, to end what has been a miserable season for the current Premier League holders.
The Blues currently languish in tenth place in the table, and whilst there is little left to play for this season, Chelsea fans would love for their side to be the club that ends Tottenham’s title dream.
The record books make for positive reading as far as the hosts are concerned, having not lost a league home against their London rivals since February 1990; winning 17 and drawing 8 of their last 25 meetings at Stamford Bridge since.
But this Spurs team is not likely to roll over like previous sides from years gone by, and there is a real sense that this current Tottenham squad are the real deal, and will be challenging for major honours in years to come.
In the build up to this eagerly anticipated London derby, we have decided to name our Chelsea – Tottenham Hotspur combined XI.
Only two Chelsea players make it into our starting line-up, with Branislav Ivanovic and Willian selected, whilst Spurs stars Kyle Walker and Erik Lamela could count themselves unfortunate to miss out.
