Chelsea v West Ham Combined XIPublished August 15, 2016
Chelsea kick-off the new Premier League season with a tough home clash against London rivals West Ham on Monday, a game that is sure to hand Antonio Conte and Slaven Bilic plenty to think about.
Both managers have endured mixed pre-seasons, and a positive start in a London derby will be key for momentum going into the first month or so of the new campaign.
The arrivals of Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante could be key for Antonio Conte during his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, whilst Slaven Bilic will hope that his plethora of signings will launch the Hammers to a top four finish during their first season in their new stadium.
Whilst the bookies have the home side as favourites going into the crunch encounter, West Ham proved last season that they can beat the so called big boys on the road, and Slaven Bilic’s side will be in optimistic mood come kick-off.
In the build up to this unpredictable match, we have decided to name our Chelsea–West Ham combined XI.
Only two West Ham players make it into our starting line-up, and controversially there is no room for Chelsea captain John Terry, who loses out to Winston Reid in the heart of defence. Dimitri Payet is the only other Hammers player to feature, alongside Willian and Eden Hazard in a mouth-watering attacking trio.
