Chelsea to trigger Barcelona star's release clause as Premier League giants plot shock Nou Camp raid
Chelsea have another Spaniard in mind as they prepare to defend the Premier League title. Just days after signing Real Madrid’s Álvaro Morata for £70m, the club are reported to be keen to sign Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto.
The Blues are said to be willing to meet Barca’s release clause and pay £37.5m to get the deal done, according to Sport.
The 25-year-old started his career as a central midfielder but Barcelona opted to play him at right-back last season. Antonio Conte is looking for a versatile player, and someone who will provide competition at the back.
The Spaniard went through the Barcelona youth academy and established himself as a key player for the first team squad over the past few years.
Chelsea were keen to sign Real Madrid’s Danilo, however, the Brazilian defender signed a £26.5m deal with Manchester City.
